Community Events

A few like-minded residents have come together to form the LGV Community Group, the aim of the group is to work with local contacts in LiveWest, Avon and Somerset police, Neighbourhood Watch, Yate Parish Church and Yate Town Council to make the new community a great place to live, by bringing residents together. Below are a number of free community events we have organised.

Easter Community Event – April 2023

This was the first community event of the year and marks us moving into spring. There was an Easter Egg hunt with prizes, crafting activities, hot drinks, and cakes.

Easter Community Event – April 2022

This was the first community event of the year and marks us moving into spring. There was an Easter Egg hunt with prizes, crafting activities, hot drinks, and cakes. We raised £208 for the 2nd Yate Rainbows Group.

Jubilee Picnic in the Park – June 2022

To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the community came together and brought along a picnic for a fun filled time in Brinsham Park.

Christmas Fayre – November 2022

The community group organised over 30 stalls selling various items including handmade art and crafts, ornaments, make-up, sweets, cakes, jewellery, and plenty more. Santa visited and we also arranged a Tombola.

Funds from the Tombola and £5 per stall raised over £460 for the Blonde Angel Street Team. This event was arranged by the LGV Community Group in collaboration with LiveWest, Yate Parish, Neighbourhood Watch and BDW.

Easter Egg Hunt & Design an Easter Egg Competition – April 2021

Lockdown had been tough so in Easter we had two ways to re-connect with each other in the community. Over Easter we ran two events Design an Easter Egg competition and an Easter Egg Hunt.

This was a great success and we raised £76 for ‘Family Food for Free’ a local charity in Yate. Winners of the categories each won an easter egg prize and the successful entries are below.

Sunflower Project – June 2021

The community came together again with the support of LiveWest and started the sunflower project. This project involved providing free sunflower kit to residents to have a go at growing them in their own garden.

We asked that a second one is grown as well to be returned, these were then planted in a local community space for everyone in the community to enjoy.

Bee’s Needs – September 2021

As the summer is coming to a close it’s the perfect time to learn more about pollinators. The LGV community was invited to come along and learn from our resident Bee Keeper about the important role they play in our environment.

There was other activities on the day including: police bike marking, tea and cake was donated by residents and £146.50 raised for McMillan Cancer Support.

Halloween – October 2021

A fun, free educational afternoon for all the family to learn about our noctornal friends, hedgehogs, and take part in spooky competitions, Day of the Dead trail, mask making and crafting.

We raised £157.88 for the Hedgehog Rescue, Yate.

Christmas Fayre & Window Wanderland – December 2021

The community joined us on the day for the Christmas Fayre; visit Santa’s grotto at the Pavilion , win prizes at the tombola, shop at the independent stalls, sing along to carols, wreath making, follow the window advent trail, and more.

We raised a grand total of £1,330 for charity. £330 from the Fayre to buy Greggs gift cards for the Blonde Angel Street Team to distribute to those in need of a hot drink and food. £1,000 was raised by the Window Wonderland Advent calendar for the North Bristol Food Bank (to be redirected to Yate Food Bank).
